Hi, my name is Lynsey, I’m a UK-based singer at Musiversal. I am a session singer, a songwriter and a singing teacher. I live near Cambridge with my husband and daughter. 🎤
I joined Musiversal in August 2021. I have completed over 150 sessions so far, working over two evenings a week. 📆
In this blog post I’ll explain my journey so far with Musiversal. 😊
My music background
I have been singing for as long as I can remember! My mum still has the old photos of me posing with a hairbrush for a microphone! I wrote my first song when I was 11 years old. I was obsessed with music and used to spend every break time and lunch time in the practice rooms at school. I would sing and improvise on the piano, teaching myself how to play. Thus began my journey of writing lyrics and composing songs. While I was not that keen on other forms of studying I could not be kept away from music - I took part in every school concert going and was in a rock band with some older pupils.
I first sang professionally aged 17. I was involved in a few original projects, writing songs, and, of course, gigging regularly. I was not particularly academic but nonetheless went to university and gained a degree in Music and Performing Arts. This was an amazing time in my life, introducing me to great players, several of whom I’m still friends with. I then followed the paths of gigging (mainly functions bands), session work and teaching. I can’t even begin to think how many students I have worked with in the last twenty years! In recent years, I began to develop an online presence, doing sessions from home. We built a vocal booth/studio in our house which is now my office and also my place of creative sanctuary.
Musiversal and me
I first heard about Musiversal from a fellow singer I know from an online session platform. He was already working with Musiversal and told me how happy he was with the relationships he had developed, and how the company and business model worked.
It sounded very interesting, so he put me in touch with Musiversal which led to the audition process starting. The auditions were challenging but also very reassuring. The thoroughness and professionalism I came across – as well as the musical challenge – assured me that this would be an excellent opportunity.
Of course, the possibility of a stable, regular income was a big appeal. But, more than that, the prospect of interesting work, in a way I had not done before (totally live?!) made it seem like a no-brainer! Looking back, the audition process was tough, and it was a real boost to be offered a role at Musiversal, knowing that they obviously do not take on everyone they audition. I felt that my skills and talents were recognised.
Having a stable job as a musician
Musiversal have given me the flexibility to balance the other parts of my work life and my home life. I do two evenings a week, sometimes more in the school holidays. It’s great because I can pick my daughter up from school, spend time with her, have a family meal and then head into the booth to work. The consistent schedule of work and income is fantastic. Something regular and guaranteed makes a big difference to musicians who have spent whole careers with varying incomes.
While I have only been working with Musiversal for less than a year, I do feel that I have grown as a singer. Singing is a very personal skill, bearing your soul in a way that, perhaps, other instruments do not. I love the challenge of having to nail takes night in, night out, week after week. It’s really helpful to interact with your client as you sing, knowing that the right solution can be found in the moment.
Musiversal’s culture
I have found everyone at Musiversal to be really professional but also down to earth and friendly. They are always on hand to help with any issues and communication is first class. I feel supported and valued which feeds into working with clients who have fed back how happy they have been with the service we have delivered.
In this era of work-from-home, I was delighted to actually meet some of the Musiversal team when they came to my home to shoot a video about the company. This was a fun experience and it was great to put a face to names. ⤵️
Musiversal’s role in the music industry
Musiversal could and should be massive for the music industry. It seems Musiversal have come up with a new way to make the most of technological advances and remote working, to produce a superb service for clients and a vastly improved way of working for musicians.
Musiversal has everything going for it to change the face of this part of the music industry. I look forward to continuing to play my part in the ongoing success of the company. I’d recommend having a look, get involved!
